Strawberry - Alpine Plant

OH These plants are a must have in our garden now, especially now that we have a little one who loves picking and EATING strawberries! Also known as Woodland or Wild strawberries, they fruit over a long period of time, for us that’s, November-April! So that means daily picking for months on end. Not many of the fruit reach our kitchen, but there are plenty of health benefits from grazing daily on these little gems. Light green leaves, beautiful small white flowers and small (1.2cm), pointy fruit which burst with flavour! The leaves are also edible and can be added to salad, soups or stews.  A great low growing groundcover plant for per perennial beds or food forests.  They do not produce runners like cultivated strawberries, but they do multiply by clumping out and can be divided for propagation purposes. Also self-sows readily.

Transplant into garden, pots or food forest Autumn-Spring. Allow for space for multiplication, in the garden we use 30cm diagonal spacing. Divide every 3-5 years for best results.  

 1 Plant in round pot, well established root system and ready to be planted in the garden.
