NZH One of the favoured heritage parsnip varieites due to its size and taste. Originated in England in the 1820’s and has been grown widely in England and the USA since. The first documentation of this variety being grown in New Zealand comes from the Moa Seed Farm, established in 1918 by the Otago Repatriation Board. Hollow Crown parsnip was a main focus of their breeding work. We received our seed from Richard Watson, who has been growing these seed for many years in that same locale. Produces long white roots measuring 30-38cm with a delicately sweet nutty flavour. As with other root vegetables, flavour improves after a frost. A perfect winter eating staple, whether roasted, steamed or mashed.
Direct sow in early Spring and Late Summer in rows 20cm apart for an almost constant supply.
