NZH Our favourite sunflower as these heads produce hundreds of seeds each! Large and very tall yellow flowers with great colour and massive strong stalks. Great for kids gardens, or anywhere you want to draw the eye. Just make sure to protect them from the birds or you will not get all the lovely seeds for eating! We select the largest for seed and eat the rest, with so many we often feed them to our chickens as they are a great source of protein for them. Annual, height to 2m, frost tender.
Sow in September in glasshouse and prick out to 4cm diagonal spacing when true leaves appear. Transplant to 50cm diagonal spacing in fertile soil in direct sunlight after last frost. These are great grown in companion with beans and pumpkins, melons or squash, as in the Three Sisters Garden.
