OP Our second Tom Wagner bred tomato to be added to our range. An American plant breeder, who started his breeding journey at the age of 10 when his grandmother entrusted him with their family bean seed, they had brought to America from Germany. Green Zebra is his most famous variety, tipping him to be a bit of a legend in the tomato breeding world. He donated Banana Cream to the Seed Savers Exchange (USA), which in 2004 Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds renamed as Cream Sausage. Regardless of what you call this tomato it is a pale-yellow elongated plum-shaped fruit with meaty flesh and a pleasantly mild flavour. Best used for salsa and salads, although as a Roma type also makes good sauce. A productive bushy plant that does not require staking, excellent for containers. Determinate type, prolific producer with fruit ripening over a two-week period.
Sow in August into trays in a glasshouse. Keep soil temp at 18-20°C for ideal germination. Prick out when true leaves appear to 4cm diagonal spacing. Pot on to small pots to further develop roots. Transplant after last frost to 40cm diagonal spacing into fertile ground in direct sun. Benefits from small amount of thinning/pruning, great for containers.
