NZH Our favourite parsley! Native to the central and eastern Mediterranean regions, this parsley naturalised in Dalmatia and was brought to New Zealand when the Dalmatians settled in Northland as gum diggers from 1885. Similar to the Italian Flat leaf variety but with more flavour. Prolific healthy plants with dark green leaves, keeping parsley on the menu throughout the season. We sometimes make a parsley salad when other greens are scarce with parsley and garlic finely chopped and a dressing of olive oil, lemon juice and salt. Simple and delicious! Biennial, 30cm height.
Sow into trays in September and again in January for continuous supply. Prick out to 4cm diagonal spacing when true leaves appear. Transplant into fertile garden soil at 30cm diagonal spacing.
