Potato - Pink Fir

OH. All potatoes originated in South America and sources say the first documentation of cultivation is from 2000 years ago. In the 16^th century the Spanish conquistadors brought back potatoes first to Spain and by the 1800’s the French were developing their own fingerling varieties. Also known by the names Rose Finn, Pink Fir (Man in Gaelic) Rose and Corne de Gatte (Horn of Husband), this fingerling was first documented in France in 1850 when it was distributed to England and the US. An elegant maincrop fingerling potato with rosy pink skin and yellow waxy flesh. Great for kids and these potatoes look like people at times! They store well keeping firm longer than other varieties. We love this potato for its unusual shape and how beautiful it looks on a plate. Excellent roasted, boiled or great for potato salads. Best to leave the skin on, as peeling is more difficult.

Plant into fertile soil in rows 1 m apart at 40cm spacing. Sow in early Spring, we recommend before the second week of September due to the psyllid bug. Frost tender, so cover if danger of frost, to get established.
