Potato - Agria

OP. We have a large collection of Māori potatoes that we grow and maintain for our family and to share the seed out to NZ gardeners. Each year alongside our heritage varieties we always cultivate a small patch of Agria potatoes because they are a favourite and very versatile in the kitchen. We decided to plant out a larger area of Agria this year, knowing that to have an organic source of Agria would be important to our customers. Originally, a German variety that was bred in 1985 by Kartoffelzucht Bohm using the genetics of parent varieties Quarta and Semlo. Developed for the organic market, this potato has become so popular that conventional growers have made it one of their major varieties grown in New Zealand. We love this potato for its multi-purpose capabilities in the kitchen. Great roasted, fried for homemade chips or boiled with a knob of butter. A large, high yielding oblong potato with yellow skin and a deep yellow flesh. A maincrop variety grown for summer production.    

Plant into fertile soil in rows 1 m apart at 40cm spacing. Sow in early Spring, we recommend before the second week of September due to the psyllid bug. Frost tender, so cover if danger of frost, to get established.
