Lettuce - Red Cos

OP If you love a good green cos, then give this red one a go, it does not disappoint. Our friend and fellow seedsaver, Jenny Freemantle, sent us this seed a few years back. She shared she originally got it from McGregor’s seeds, and notes they no longer stock it. Glad to have a red cos in our collection now. A heading lettuce, producing nice sized crisp heads. Suits well to Cesaer salad, or frilled romaine dishes or just in any salad you would use lettuce for. Holds well in summer.

Sow in early Spring, repeat monthly for continuous supply. Sow into trays, prick out at 2.5cm diagonal spacing when true leaves emerge. Transplant into fertile soil at 20cm. As some seeds require heat to germinate, lettuces DO NOT germinate if soil temperature is too high. In summer we have found lettuces do not germinate in glasshouse conditions, instead we germinate them in our shadehouse.
